Ms. Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Jt. Managing Director
|
Sulajja Firodia Motwani is the Joint Managing Director of Kinetic Engineering Ltd. She is also a Director of Kinetic Motor Company Limited and Kinetic Marketing Services Limited. She is responsible for the group's overall business strategy, sales and marketing, and business development activities.
Known for her bold business moves, Sulajja has played a key role in transforming Kinetic Group from a niche moped manufacturer into a manufacturer of a full range of two wheelers - from mopeds, scooters to motorcycles and in expanding the group's operations to new businesses. This was brought about through a new business and marketing strategy to make the company fully customer and market driven, to launch new models in all segments and an aggressive business acquisition strategy. Sulajja has played a key role in designing and executing the aggressive marketing plans of the company. Kinetic has recently struck an important alliance with renowned Italian company, Italjet Moto. Through this acquisition, the group has acquired full rights and technology to launch a wide range of highly advanced and futuristic range of seven new scooter models in India. Kinetic has also joined hands with Hyosung Motors of South Korea and has brought to India the most coveted Kinetic Aquila and Comet, India's most desirable motorcycles. Kinetic Group's future plans include an aggressive growth not only in two wheelers, but also in exports, auto components and engineering design services. Sulajja plays a key role in steering this business strategy and in its implementation across group companies.
Sulajja has received numerous awards for her achievements and has been invited to speak at a large number of forums. She was featured as a business "Face of the Millennium" by leading magazine India Today; and was voted among the top 25 business leaders of the next century in a poll of industrialists conducted by Fortune India. Sulajja was also awarded the Society Young Achiever's Award for Business for the year 2002 and won the 2003 award for excellence as a top woman CEO from the Institute of Marketing and Management. She has won the Young Super Achiever Award by Business Today for year 2003. Most notably, she was selected by the World Economic Forum as a "Global Leader of Tomorrow" in 2002.
Before joining Kinetic, Sulajja worked at the renowned investment analytics company, BARRA International, based in California for 4 years. She also set up BARRA's Indian operations when she returned to India. Sulajja has a track record of academic excellence; she was a merit list ranker for SSC examinations, Maharashtra state topper for HSC examinations, and graduated with the 2nd rank in Pune University for her undergraduate degree. She pursued her higher studies in USA and holds an MBA from the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University at Pittsburgh. Her hobbies include traveling, outdoor sports like skiing & scuba diving and spending time with her 5-year-old son Sidhant. She is also a fitness enthusiast and has been a national level badminton player. |

Mr. Arun Firodia is the founder and Chairman of the Kinetic Group of companies and one of the most respected industrialists in India. He is widely acknowledged as a visionary technocrat with strong patriotic values. His wide-ranging initiatives have formed an exemplary and diverse lifetime body of work.
In addition to being the founder and Chairman of Kinetic, Mr. Firodia is also:
- The Chairman of ZF steering India, and Executive Committee Member of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM)
- Executive Committee Member of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)
- Immediate Past President of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries & Agriculture (MCCIA)
- Chairman of Pune Citizen's Police Foundation (PCPF) - working towards Welfare, Health and Education of Pune Police and their families
- On the Advisory Board of the All India Sainik Association (Army, Navy, Air Force) working for the welfare of ex-servicemen
- On the governing body of the Symbiosis, a highly regarded educational group
- On the Managing Committee of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan of Pune Kendra
Mr. Arun Firodia instituted the "HK Firodia Awards for excellence in Science and Technology" to recognize achievements of Indian scientists and promote science among the youth. These awards carrying a substantial cash prize, are given annually to Indian scientists for world-class contributions in any branch of science. The awards have been given to very eminent scientists (including His Excellency Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam) selected by an independent jury.
During his tenure as head of MCCIA, Mr. Firodia kickstarted several mega-initiatives to promote industry and trade:
- Setting up a "Food Testing Lab" for food processing industry around Pune and Western Maharashtra.
- Setting up CETE (Center for Electronic Test Engineering) required for the IT industry.
- Gramin Information Center to provide Agricultural information and guidance to the farmers in rural areas
- Conceptualized and implemented "Pune Expo" exhibition to give an annual platform to industry and trade combating recession.
- Initiated "Auto-cluster" concept and of which the first project is being executed with Central Government assistance by 2007,
And also gave final shape to ambitious projects such as:
- Creation of a mega International Convention Center at Pune with world class facilities
- An International exhibition center at Mulshi near Pune
- An International Airport at Chakan near Pune
And also made several innovative proposals to Government of Maharashtra to attract investments, create employment and achieve economic growth. The proposals address relevant topics such as:
- Transforming the business climate in Maharashtra
- Labor law reforms to generate employment
- How Mumbai-Pune expressway can transform the state's fortunes
- How to reform power sector
- How to conserve and manage water resources
Mr. Arun Firodia's contributions and services to society have been recognized officially by way of several honors and awards:
- Recipient of the 'Pimpri Chinchwad Bhushan" award for 2002 by Annasaheb Maghar Social Service Foundation for his contribution towards industrial, social, education and labor welfare
- Awarded the 'Nagar Road Industries Association - Life Time Achievement Award" for year 2002 - 2003 for his outstanding contributions to the automobile industry
- Awarded FICCI CSR Award in 2003 for Empowerment of the Physically Challenged
- Awarded The NCPEDP - Shell Helen Keller Award for the year 2004 for Employment of Disabled People
- Honored and inducted in the "Indian Automotive Hall of Pride 2005" on January 08, 2005 by Overdrive automotive publication along with CII, SIAM and ACMA for his contribution to the Automotive Industry.
- Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award by Indira Group of Institutes in January 2005
- Mr. Arun Firodia & his wife Dr. Jayashree Firodia have been felicitated and awarded the Udyog Ratna Award by Pune Municipal Corporation for their contributions to civic society .
- Mr. Arun Firodia & his wife Dr. Jayashree Firodia have been given the 'Rugna Mitra' award, as also 'Best Couple of the Millennium Award of Sahajeevan Foundation, Thane in February 2001.
A shining corporate citizen :
Recognizing the need for citizen participation in making their city beautiful, clean and ecofriendly, has initiated several projects :
- Saving the city environment from exhaust gas emission of vehicles. Regular emission check up camps are conducted at Kinetic dealership outlets to ensure that new and old Kinetic vehicles comply with stringent emission norms.
- In co-operation with Nidhar, an NGO, he has sponsored emission indicators at busy thoroughfares to create public awareness
- He has researched, prepared and delivered presentations about several methods to improve city traffic which will reduce emission
- He has created a beautiful children's park in Pune to provide playground space for children while helping conserve environment
- He has taken on responsibility for beautification and maintenance of a major road in Pune
- He also encourages young students in performing arts and has been organizing the "Firodia Trophy" competition in dramatics for the last 25 years. It is an event all students look forward to and participate in with enthusiam.
- He also feels very strongly about the cancer of corruption and has suggested a 5 - point program to eradicate it.
Education:
Mr. Firodia holds a B Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, a Masters in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Sloan School of Management.
